BEE feeds graft and delivery protests
TO BEE or not to BEE that is the question. The DA is considering not to support the government’s BEE policy. Whether this is the correct way to go is questionable and might cost the DA in the forthcoming elections.
If one looks at the dismal state of most municipalities and some government departments, which is obviously due to BEE policy, one can understand why the DA has decided not to support the policy. It is perceived that it has led to cadre deployment, placing people in prime jobs without a clue of what the job entails.
This in turn has led to widespread corruption and collapsed municipalities. The auditor general’s report is enough proof of the dismal state of most municipalities.
The government is trying to rectify the problems within failed municipalities by deploying professional engineers, town planners, etc, to assist.
Imagine a municipality being run by incompetent officials who have no clue on why technical support personnel are a critical requirement for the municipality to function. It has been reported that of the 257 municipalities only 7% are well functional.
While there are thousands of graduates and professionals walking the streets jobless, BEE policy is a major contributor to the dismal state of municipalities.
Ordinary South Africans are very much aware of the shenanigans going on within municipalities.
I guess service delivery protests are the order of the day, with people venting their frustrations by destruction of public property and looting. Can you blame them?
