PSL shows signs of real unpredictability

- DHIRSHAN GOBIND

THE Premier Soccer League (PSL) reiterated its tag as one of the world’s most unpredictable leagues at the weekend, with a dose of unexpected results and a mix of fortunes for each of the three KwaZulu-Natal representatives.

Maritzburg United, Golden Arrows and Amazulu find themselves situated at different ends of the table, as proceedings move into second gear in the country’s elite league.

United, who went into their Friday evening fixture against Kaizer Chiefs on the back of three successive defeats, showed guts and determination, with only 10 men, to hold a star-studded Amakhosi team to a goalless draw, at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

The club, however, occupy last place on the log and will be hoping that the Chiefs result was the beginning of a turn-around in fortunes. Arrows find themselves smack bang in the middle of the table in 8th spot, with 4 points from three matches, this after a dull goalless draw with Cape Town City over the weekend. The team looked impressive but couldn’t convert their chances and will be hoping for more cutting-edge in front of goal next time around.

Amazulu on the other hand, are sitting pretty in third position, having convincingly beaten Free State Stars 2-1 last Sunday. The hard-fought victory was one to savour and the club will be one to watch this season. Both Amazulu and Arrows are next in action on August 29, against Wits and Polokwane City respectively, while United have an extended break and will next take on Wits on September 15.
