Cops swoop on alleged drug house
A MAN, believed to be a senior member of a Chatsworth school governing body, was nabbed with drugs valued at R1.3 million at his home on Sunday, following a week-long intelligence-driven operation.
Hambarpersadh Kishorlall, 45, of Crossmoor and his co-accused, Lucas Mashaba, 21, appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
They were arrested at his home during a joint operation by the provincial Organised Crime Unit, the provincial Drug Unit and uMlazi K9 unit.
It is understood police raided an outbuilding on the property where the men were allegedly found with drugs – about 505 Mandrax tablets (valued at R30 300), 22 200 heroin capsules (R555 000) and 2 826 large pieces
of rock cocaine (R706500).
“After all the evidence was gathered police pounced on the suspects who were found in a building used to manufacture and package drugs,” SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said. “The suspects were immediately arrested and charged for dealing in drugs.”
Sam Pillay from the Anti-Drug Forum told POST on Monday that it had been a long time that a bust of such a magnitude had been made.
“I hope it continues. We have been making a call for a long time for specialised units to get involved. Even when the police realised crime stats, they mentioned bringing back specialised units. There are many others involved in drugs estimated at over R1m in Chatsworth so we need the police to get those. Drugs don’t only affect a person, they affect families and communities.”
