THE first and only collaboration between Illayathalabathy Vijay and Suriya was with a movie titled Friends that was released 17 years ago. Ramesh Kanna made up the third in the circle of friendship. Seventeen years later, Ramesh’s son Jaskwanth Kannan teams up with Illayathalabathy Vijay for the movie Sarkar.
From the teaser of Sarkar, we can deduce that Vijay plays a corporate tycoon living in the United States.
He comes to India to cast his vote but things go awry and soon he is left with no choice but to fight against the political system of the state of Tamil Nadu.
Vijay uses the support of youngsters to fight against the politicians. One of the actors who is part of that youth wing is Ramesh Kanna’s son Jashwanth Kannan. Sarkar is slated for a Deepavali release worldwide and premiers in South Africa on November 7.
The movie 96, a poignant love story crafted by debutant Prem Kumar, is undoubtedly one of the best romance movies of recent times.
The movie that showcases Vijay Sethupathy and Trisha’s brilliance continues to enjoy critical and commercial success. After its massive success in Tamil, plans are afoot to remake 96 in Telegu with Samantha Akkineni playing the female lead. Samantha has remarked that the remake shouldn’t be attempted as it would completely lose its pristine essence if remade.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming gangster movie, Petta boasts a stellar cast in Vijay Sethubathy, Simran, Sasikumar and Bobby Simha. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Petta is 15 days ahead of schedule. Slated for release on January 11, Petta has music by Aniruth and sees the first time that Aniruth scores music for a Rajinikantha movie.
National award-winner Suseenthiran is a movie maker known for creating socially conscious movies with sensible scripts providing wholesome entertainment. His former movies include Pandiya Naadu Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer and Rajapattai).
Suseenthiran’s next directorial effort is Genius, which revolves around the pressure applied by parents on their children for them to excel academically and the subsequent pressure this puts the children under.
The script evoked a lot of interest from the likes of Vijay, Jayam Ravi and Allu Arjun, but newcomer Roshan bagged the role. Aadukalam Naren and Meera essay the role of the parents. Uvan Shankar Rajay scores the music.
Sandakozhi 2, directed by Lingusamy, is receiving rave reviews from South African audiences. It’s set in the rural, rugged and rustic terrain of Madurai. Vishal takes centre stage in this revenge drama without hogging the limelight.
Linguasamy allows Keerthy Suresh and Varalutchmi’s characters to hold their own with the meaty roles they are given.
All round great acting performances. Good support by Rajkeeran. With Sandakozhi 2, Vijay is fast becoming a commercially dependable star. Sandakozhi is currently on circuit in South Africa.
Dhanush is kept extremely busy with many movies in his kitty (both as an actor and a director). His recent release Vada Chennai is being appreciated for its hardhitting storyline and Dhanush’s realistic portrayal of Anbu.
Critics and fans are raving about Vada Chennai.
Dhanush also has Enai Noki Paayum Thota, which is awaiting a Deepavali release and then there is Maari 2, which is in its post-production phase and will release in December.
It was recently announced that Dhanush will be teaming up with Vetri Maaran once again for a film based on a Tamil novel Vekkai.
This movie will go on the floors in a week or two. Apart from these ventures, Dhanush has completed a few portions of his second directorial starring Nagarjuna, SJ Suryah, Aditi Rao and many other stars.
He has also signed to play the lead in Ratsasan director Ram Kumar’s next movie.
Vada Chennai is currently on circuit in South Africa.
Director Priyadarshini has bagged the enviable role of directing the biopic of former CM Jayalalitha.
Priyadarshini has hit back at Kamal Haasan for prejudging the movie, and claiming that it will project a biased view.
Priya also questioned Kamal’s motive in starting a project to produce a sequel to Thevar Magan.
She feels that this sequel is planned with the intention to further his political ambitions.
