KK: Sights set on fans

- LATOYA NEWMAN

RENOWNED singer Krishna Kumar Kunnath is amped (pun not intended) about his first trip and live performance in South Africa.

In an interview with POST, the artist, more popularly known as KK, said he also considered it an honour to be the first to perform at Durban’s new high brow event venue, The Globe at Suncoast.

“I am very excited to be performing in SA for the first time. I have been told I will be the first artist to perform at this magnificent venue – The Globe.

“I consider it a great honour to do that. This is going to be a fantastic evening filled with music, masti and laughter.

“Since this is my first visit I am hoping to connect with as many fans as I can. Just be there. I promise a great evening.

“It’s time to Waka Waka South Africa and have a ball!”

KK said he loved the “sheer energy” that was exchanged between him and his fans: “That propels me in my concerts. I have a good time on stage and I feel if I have fun on stage, then everyone can have fun. It is a simple equation.”

The popular singer will use this time in the country to bond with his followers, he said he’d have to come back for sightseeing, as he was travelling alone.

“I am travelling alone and I am going to miss my wife Jyothy like crazy. I seldom step out without her, especially when I go to a new place. She is my best companion to explore new places and sights. So I am probably going to ask you guys for the places to visit and then come back with her to explore them.

“Right now my sights are set on the audience at The Globe,” he said.

Asked more about his beginnings in the industry KK recalled the point at which “desperation” inspired him to pursue a dream

“I was always passionate about singing as a kid, but to take it up as a profession, that thought came much later in life. I had taken up a job just after college and within a couple of months, I realised I was very sad.

“I was doing something completely the opposite of what I really wanted to do. That’s when I figured that I want to make music because that makes me happy.

“I think it’s very important for anyone in life to do what they like to do and what they believe in. Otherwise there is a constant conflict within oneself.

“At that point, my desperation inspired me to get out of that job.

“Also, the multitude of artistes and singers that I had heard from childhood made me feel I should be positive and follow through with my dreams.

“Fortunately, I was also married at that time.

“Jyothy knew me from childhood. She told me to believe in myself and egged me on to do what makes me happy,” he explained.

Tadap Tadap, Zara Sa, Awarapan Banjarapan and Tu Hi Meri Shab, are among the firm favourites KK will perform at The Globe on December 8.

Tickets are from R280 and are available through Computicket.
