Priyanka makes Forbes list

-

IT HAS been a busy few weeks for actress Priyaka Chopra with a host of pre-wedding, wedding and post wedding festivities, which was topped off late last week by the announcement of her listing on the prestigious Forbes’ List of 100 Most Powerful Women of 2018.

This came on the heels of her Delhi wedding reception, attended by the whose who of Bollywood and Hollywood. And the news of the listing came as Chopra launched a women-focused dating app in India.

She said on her social media pages: “Thank you Forbes. Honoured to be a part of such an exclusive and illustrious list of #PowerWomen in the world for the second time. It’s a reminder to stay hungry, keep pushing the status quo and continuing to do what I love. And on that note...#backtowork#...”

Chopra is at #94 on Forbes’ List of 100 Most Powerful Women of 2018. She’s one of only four Indians on the list.

The Forbes list described Chopra as being: “Arguably the most successful Bollywood actor to cross over to Hollywood.”

On the business front, the actress has also marked her maiden venture as an investor in social and dating application last week called “Bumble”.

Launched in India, the app aims to bring social change and women empowerment by letting only the woman make the first move in heterosexual matches. India is the first country in Asia to get Bumble, which was founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd shortly after she left Tinder, a dating app she co-founded.

Herd said: “It was Priyanka Chopra’s idea to get Bumble to India. We always had India on the radar but we thought it might be a long time from now. When Priyanka and I were sitting next to each other at a dinner, we were sharing our missions and visions about the planet, and what we care about.

“We realised we care a lot about the empowerment of girls and women around the world, and she said it’s remarkable what you’re doing with Bumble, and this is so important for India. Let’s take it there.”

The idea, as Chopra’s manager Anjula Acharia – who is also a strategic adviser for Bumble in India – said, emerged as they felt women in India don’t just need dating apps, but something which helped them in all areas of life.

“Priyanka is very purposedriven. She is very driven by things that make the world better and have a social impact,” said Acharia.

After her “fairytale” wedding with American singer Nick Jonas, Chopra said: “On a scale of 1 to 10 in happiness, I’m on 12.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the reception to congratulate the couple.

Chopra first burst onto the scene by winning the Miss World crown in 2000, and then became a leading Bollywood actress with films like Fashion, Dostana and Mary Kom, followed by a successful crossover into Hollywood with American TV show Quantico, while Nick and his brothers Kevin and Joe are known for having formed a pop-rock band, The Jonas Brothers, in 2005.

The band split up in 2013. – additional reporting,
