Shreya Ghoshal to serenade SA fans
SUPERSTAR Shreya Ghoshal is set to serenade her South African fans on April 30 at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
In an interview with POST, the songbird of popular hits that include Ooh La La, Radha On The Dancefloor, Deewani Mastani, Chikni Chameli and Teri Meri, said her fans drove her music travels.
“The love and respect of my fans worldwide are the biggest rewards to me and my music. I feel blessed to be a reason for someone’s smile,” Ghoshal said.
The leading female playback singer in Indian cinema is considered to be one of the most versatile of her generation.
Ghoshal said music and melody appealed to her at an early age.
“I was 9 years old when I first won a national level singing competition.
“I appeared in Sa Re Ga Ma, an Indian musical reality TV show, when I was 11.
“That’s where I was first judged by Kalyanji Anandji who suggested my dad move to Mumbai so that I could learn from him.
“I believe that is the moment when I realised I wanted to sing for films.”
Inspired by many singers in the industry, Ghoshal said Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle were her “all-time favourites”.
Ghoshal’s performances the world over are always sold out.
When asked what was the most important aspect of maintaining a relationship with fans, she said: “Giving them whatever they are looking for on stage, be it a song with a soothing melody, to dance numbers, overall presentation, the finest stage productions in terms of sound and light designing, and so on.
“Assessing the mood and accordingly pouring my heart out for my audience on stage is the mantra I believe in.”
Osman Osman, of Blu Blood Entertainment, synonymous with bringing the biggest Bollywood superstars to Africa’s stages, said Ghoshal’s shows were one of their most anticipated musical events.
“From the production quality of her live shows to performances of her biggest chart-toppers, fan favourites and outstanding renditions of evergreen songs from the greats, Shreya is the epitome of world-class entertainment.”
