Miss SAs in the making

-

SHENAI Bridglall of Port Shepstone, Priyeshka Lutchman of Rosebank and Shané Naidoo of Benoni are among the semi-finalists for the Miss SA 2017 pageant, which will take place on March 25 at the Sun City Superbowl.

Bridglall, 22, is currently completing her Business Science degree in marketing, statistics and economics at UCT. She said becoming Miss South Africa had been a childhood dream. “I value that the Miss South Africa organisation looks for goal-oriented women to represent our stunning country and I seek to be that.” Bridglall founded a non-profit organisation called The EssBee Foundation, which focuses on education, personal hygiene, nutrition and women’s empowerment.

Naidoo, 24, an industrial engineering student at Wits University, made the Top 12 of the contest last year. She said she re-entered as she felt her journey with the brand was not over . “And I can identify even more now with who a Miss SA is and what she stands for… I am more focused and confident and believe that will hold me in good stead for the journey ahead.”

Lutchman, 24, a business management student and international model, said becoming Miss SA would allow her to tackle social issues in the country. If she won, she said, she would seek a meeting with Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa. “He oversees a lot of the social programmes and I want to find out where the gaps are and how someone of my profile could assist.”

The winner will receive R1 million in cash from sponsors Sun International and Cell C.
