Diwali Greetings

-

The Durban Diwali Festival takes place this weekend – a week before the annual Hindu festival of lights. According to the almanac, Diwali will be observed by the Tamil community next Saturday (October 29). The next day, the Hindi, Telugu and Gujarati communities will observe Diwali and Luxmi Pooja. The president of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha, Ashwin Trikamjee, said a unanimous agreement was reached a few years ago by all national Hindu organisations on when universities, schools and employers could consider giving Hindus the day off, and it was decided to alternate between North and South dates. Last year the North Indian date was used. He said those who wished to observe Diwali on any other date (October 28, 29, 30, or 31) were at liberty to negotiate the day off with their employers. Other dates for the celebration of Diwali are Dhan Trayodasi (October 28), Narak Chaturdasi (October 29) and Gujarati New Year (October 31). Durban model Naliyani Govender, along with the Editor and staff of POST, wish our readers and advertisers a blessed Diwali. Govender is dressed by YARA Couture owned by Sanolia Naidoo.
