Driver attacked at garage

-

A MEREBANK man is traumatised after being brutally assaulted by four men at a petrol station in the area.

The 40-year-old, who requested anonymity, had three teeth kicked out and sustained injuries to his ribs, head and legs.

The man, a yard manager at a container depot, said the attack occurred last Saturday night when he went to buy cigarettes.

He said four men in a black Golf, which was parked at a petrol pump, got out of the car and one approached him.

“I got back into the car and I was on my cellphone when a guy pulled my cellphone out of my hand through the window.”

The assailant tried to take his car keys but he resisted.

“One of the guys pulled me out of the car and assaulted me. Then the others joined in.”

In security video footage, seen by POST, the man can be seen being kicked several times by an assailant as he lies on the ground.

He said the men had taken his cellphone and a pair of sunglasses.

The man tried to follow the assailants as they drove off but hit another car as he reversed.

He has been told repairs to his white Golf GTI will cost more than R19 000.

“I am shaken. It will take some time to get over this,” he said.

He said he had been booked off work for a week to recover.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said the police were investigating.
