- DOREEN PREMDEV

SUPER Smart Shivad Singh has started a new show, Head Start, which features inspiring youth from around the world.

His aim is to inspire pupils and tertiary students to follow their dreams despite the odds. Singh, 22, grew up in Durban and is an accounting graduate from the University of Cape Town.

Singh and his friend, Fuaad Coovadia, started Pesto Academy, an education company. They have published four university and eight high school tutorial guides, and provided free content to 10 000 learners via the UJ portal. Singh decided take his drive to motivate other youngsters to another level. He started Head Start, where he interviews successful and enterprising people around the world.

“I thought I would finish my degree, get a safe job and then after a few years I would take action on my dreams,” said Singh.

It was in his first year at university when he heard about Ludwick Marishane, who created Drybath, a waterless bathing lotion.

“I wanted to expose millions of high school and college students to others like Ludwick, so I created ‘Head Start’.” The weekly show was first aired on August 14.

“People interviewed include Forbes 30 under 30 members, Time’s most influential teens, successful young entrepreneurs, scientists, inventors, programmers, game developers, a MasterChef Junior winner, a New York Times best selling author and so many others,” he said.

Head Start is available via podcasts on Apple iTunes, Apple Podcasts and on Soundcloud. Search ‘Head Start Show’ to find it or go to www.hstart.co/
