Strolling in solidarity

-

DURBAN recently held its annual Sari Stroll on the beachfront. This colourful event draws women of all race groups and not only portrays the beauty of women draped in saris, but also promotes social cohesion.

I guess there are many events held all over the country for various reasons, but mainly to assist charities. Here is an idea that can be a yearly event and an original for Durban.

The African woman wearing a headscarf with a baby strapped to her back portrays true Africanism. How about organising a yearly walk with men of all race groups wearing head scarves with babies and toddlers strapped to their backs?

This walk would build social cohesion while promoting the fight against woman and child abuse.

The shawls and headscarves for such an event could be purchased from local flea market vendors. Vijay Sewtahal
