The eThekwini City futsal team enjoyed the company of Deputy Mayor Fawzia Peer and former Bafana Bafana star Delron Buckley (front with the main trophy) at their annual awards function in Springfield at the weekend. The indoor team enjoyed a strong season, winning the national league and the national knock-out cup.

Their achievements were all the more spectacular in that they annexed both the competitions without losing a single match the entire season.

“That breathtaking display was achieved due to the players being totally committed, disciplined and dedicated,” said Chris Naidoo, coach of eThekwini City.

Among the players awarded prizes were Radlin Sansouccie, Donovan Gordon and Wiseman Cele, who did national duty in a World Cup qualifying tournament.

Cele was also declared the SAFA National Futsal Player of the Year and feted for being chosen Player of the Tournament at the National KO Cup.

Duane Gordon took the prize for being the highest goalscorer in the KO Cup.

At club level, Cele lifted the Player of the Year trophy, Sabelo Mazibuko and Webo Mazibuko were recognised as the Most Consistent Players and Tovey Ramnarain took the Clubman of the Year honour.

The new national futsal season starts in October. To join the club and learn about the sport call Naidoo on 078 043 2142.
