MANDELA 100 INITIATIVE
The Mandela 100 initiative, commemorating the centenary of Mandela’s birth on July 18, was launched at the Denis Hurley Centre recently. It’s a call-out to Durbanites to honour Mandela’s 100 years by finding 100 ways of making the city a better place in 100 days. Raymond Perrier, the centre’s director, said he wanted people to think about the many ways in which they could share their time and their goods to help the poor in the city. The centre has created a list of 100 ideas, including working with a person with a disability, one-on-one support for young people, preparing meals for the homeless, helping a refugee child travel to school and adopting a granny or grandpa.
