1 Vergele­gen Sau­vi­gnon Blanc 2016, Stel­len­bosch

On the nose the wine dis­plays hints of trop­i­cal fruit, but un­like a lot of other Sau­vi­gnon Blancs, it is more el­e­gant than up­front. The palate is crisp with no­table min­er­al­ity and fresh­ness lead­ing into a lin­ger­ing, grace­ful fin­ish.

2 Blue Owl Un­wooded Chardon­nay 2017, Coastal re­gion

When the Riversmeet farm was ac­quired by the own­ers of Al­lée Bleue, they were very im­pressed by the amount of bird life on the farm. The high­light be­ing the owls that lived next to the river. This wine has notes of white peach and lime on the nose. The mouth­feel has some racy acid­ity which leads into an easy, en­joy­able fin­ish.

3 Es­say Chenin Blanc 2017, Coastal re­gion

South Africa, be­ing a new world coun­try in wine terms has more lib­eral wine laws that al­low the blend­ing of any se­lec­tion of grape cul­ti­vars. This Chenin blanc is en­hanced with a hint of Viog­nier and Rous­sanne grapes. You will find a fresh and fra­grant style with hints of quince and honey blos­som lead­ing into rose petal notes. The wine has a soft and el­e­gant fin­ish.

4 Al­lée Bleue Star­lette Blanc (Sau­vi­gnon Blanc, Chenin Blanc) 2017, Fran­schhoek

The wine­maker, Van Zyl Du Toit, was orig­i­nally from the Swart­land and grew up in a wine­mak­ing fam­ily. His wines have been highly re­garded and re­warded in re­cent years. This blend is very ex­pres­sive on the nose with notes of fresh peas and goose­berry. The palate is racy, crisp, and very re­fresh­ing.

5 Jor­dan Black Magic Mer­lot 2014, Stel­len­bosch

The soil where th­ese vines are grown is very rich in Black Tour­ma­line crys­tals that an­cient ma­gi­cians used for pro­tec­tion. The Jor­dan Black Magic Mer­lot has a com­plex nose with hints of red fruit in­ter­twined with hints of cedar wood. On the palate, the wine crescen­dos with a long, lush, and com­plex fin­ish.

6 Stel­len­rust Shi­raz 2016, Stel­len­bosch

This wine was ma­tured in bar­rel for 12 months. On the nose the wine has a com­bi­na­tion of plum, co­rian­der, and cured meat. On the palate it has some smoky notes with a good savoury fin­ish.

7 Hoopen­burg Bush Vine Pino­tage 2014, Stel­len­bosch

This wine was ma­tured in French oak bar­rels for 10 months. The nose has notes of dark fruit and also up­front banana bread nu­ances. The palate shows ini­tial fruit that leads into a ro­bust tan­nin struc­ture.

8 Thelema Moun­tain Red 2014, Western Cape

This wine is a blend of Caber­net Sau­vi­gnon, Mer­lot, Petit Ver­dot, Grenache, Shi­raz, and Caber­net Franc. The wine spent a to­tal of 18 months in bar­rel. On the nose there are some notes of black­cur­rant and sour cher­ries com­ple­mented by some Chi­nese spice. The palate de­liv­ers on what was promised on the nose and has a juicy long fin­ish.
