All signs lead to the 2024 Harcourts Hilton Art in the Country exhibition from May 23 to 26 at Harrington House as it entrenches its reputation as KZN'S premier selling event, said convenor Kathy Jacob.

Speaking at the official launch last Friday, Jacob said the event is on track to increase both the value of works sold and the number of visitors to the magical splendour under a giant marquee at Harrington House in Hilton.

“Last year, we recorded sales to the value of R1.25 million and a foot count of more than 3 500 over the four days of the exhibition,” she said. “This year, we’re confident of beating both those metrics.”

Jacob also unveiled new sponsors in Investec and Hilton Quarry Superspar and Tops as part of the event’s growth curve.

“We’re excited by the support from two iconic brands as a measure of Art in the Country’s growing regional and national stature,” she said.

With more than 140 artists clamouring to be part of the Art in the Country ambience, Jacob was spoilt for choice to fill the 60 slots.

“We’re honoured to showcase some of the country’s top artists whose work is sought after by investors and art aficionados,” she said.

Much as the event is a platform for exhibitors to engage with fellow artists and buyers, it also encourages artists to interact with the public.

“We’re out to create an inclusive environment in the picturesque venue and sustenance by celebrity chef Jackie Cameron,” said Jacob.

So too is entertainment by Rene Tshiakanyi and local muso Des. A fully-stocked cash bar will be available, while pancakes, icecream and coffee will be on sale.
