Mziwonke Dlabantu
Chief Executive Officer, National Home Builders Registration Council
The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) has appointed Mziwonke Dlabantu as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 October 2017.
He has more than 20 years' experience in the public service, with expertise in the human settlements sector, as well as strategic and financial management.
Dlabantu, who is a chartered accountant by profession, has served in various government departments. Most recently, he was the Director-General of the Department of Public Works. His career started in Bisho, in the Eastern Cape, as an articled clerk at accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, which is now part of PriceWaterhouse Coopers, in 1988. He then joined the Department of State Expenditure, which is now known as National Treasury, and served as Director of Fiscal Affairs Transport and Communication.
He was also Chief Financial Officer at the Department of Housing, now known as the Department of Human Settlements, and the Department of Defence before joining the Department of Public Works.
As the new CEO, Dlabantu will be expected to be actively involved in the implementation of a turnaround plan aimed at ensuring policy alignment and operational effectiveness. Part of this plan is to respond to the housing backlog, as identified by the Minister of Human Settlements.
