PARK LIFE

Kgalagadi National Transfrontier Park comprises an area of over 3,6 million hectares and is filled with herds of gemsbok, springbok, eland, blue wildebeest, black-mane lions, and Kalahari leopards. Guided morning and sunset drives are available at Twee Rivieren, Nossob, Matamata, and the Kalahari Tented Camp; enquiries can be made at the reception desks. Drives require a minimum of two adults and are subject to availability.there are also various self-drive 4×4 routes available. It is advisable to enquire about this at the information desk at the Twee Rivieren gate.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

During the peak Summer months (December to February), the temperature in the Kalahari basin can easily reach 40 degrees Celsius and sometimes even higher. If you are averse to the heat, it is advisable to come during the Winter period (June to August). During this time, the air is dry, and the temperatures reach a high of around 25 degrees Celsius.this is also the best time for animal viewing, but the nights are harshly cold, so be sure to pack enough warm clothing.

For those who come to see the vegetation, plan your trip sometime between December and April when tropical thunderstorms liven up the Kalahari. During this time, it rains huge amounts in a short time, and the desert transforms into a green oasis filled with colourful wild flowers.
