DEFENDER SAFES – OUTWITTING CRIMINALS

-

Over the last few years we have seen a huge increase in armed robberies and criminals are more and more inclined to demand guns, which are usually kept in a locked safe, when they do get access to a house and find the inhabitants at home.

Little has been available to the public to combat or protect themselves against this type of crime. Criminals get access to houses or walk into business- es with no indication of their plans until the victims find themselves facing a gun and are ordered to hand over their safes’ keys. Panic buttons offer some peace of mind but are dangerous to use and if seen by the criminal may lead to greater violence. In addition, false panic button activations make it difficult for alarm companies to identify which call for help is real and when to respond promptly with an appropriate and safe level of assistance.

Also, after a home or business owner has handed over the safe’s keys he or she is expendable and the criminal may execute the person on the spot. Alarm systems are also not always effective because they are often turned off when people are at home or at work.

To combat this type of crime Defender Safes have developed an affordable system which helps to address the above problems. The system is basically an electronic lock fitted to a safe that can send identifiable signals to an alarm company, a cellphone or a land phone. Thus it not only offers users the daily convenience of key-free access to their safes but also the opportunity to safely send a call for help while complying with the criminals’ demands of opening the safe.

The electronic lock system can be linked to your alarm company, a number of cellphones of friends or family members or landlines. To open the safe without sending out the silent alarm call you need one code and another (which is very similar to the normal code) to alert whoever you want to that someone is forcing you to open the safe. This identifiable signal for help will provide an important early warning to the alarm company’s response team or family/friends and allows time for a prompt and appropriate response.

The Defender system is supplied either in an affordable, small home or handgun-type digital safe, or it can be fitted to any rifle safe of your choice. You can either buy a rifle safe from Defender Safes or have the lock fitted to an existing insurance-approved SABS safe.

The various options are supplied complete with a wire-free link to the alarm system already installed. Or rural areas may be linked directly to a land phone or cellphone system.

Defender Safes believe that this unique, easy to use and valuable system joins the homeowner, their safe, alarm and armed response into one comprehensive security system, working together to help address the growing threat of armed robbery in South Africa. * For more information contact Defender Safes directly on 083537-0441.
