Is there room for Bennifer part two?

- JUSTIN MOYER

WHERE one Bennifer falls, another may rise up.

Or so hoped minions on Twitter, who speculated about or hoped for a reunion of the original Bennifer – Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck – after news broke this week of the actor’s imminent divorce from Jennifer Garner.

Fuelling the flames was a photo of herself that J Lo – reportedly dating dancer Casper Smart but “kind of ” single – posted on Twitter. The picture of a happy mom or a coded message sent to a former fiancé on the day his divorce was announced?

Lopez – who was reportedly “beaming” at Affleck at the Golden Globes in 2013 when he won an award for Argo – has said she was destroyed when she and Affleck broke up days before they were to be married in 2004.

“It felt like my heart had been torn out of my chest,” Lopez wrote in True Love, her memoir released last year.

“And when the realisation that I wasn’t going to have the fairy-tale family I wanted really set in, well, that was when I really started to fall apart.”

Lopez married singer Marc Anthony less than six months after she and Affleck didn’t make it to the altar.

Affleck waited about a year and a half before marrying Garner in 2005.

And Affleck and Lopez do stay in touch.

“We don’t have the kind of relationship where she relies on me for advice,” Affleck said of Lopez in 2012, “but we do have the kind of relationship where there’ll be an e-mail saying, ‘Oh, your movie looks great.’

“I remember when she got American Idol. I said: ‘This was really smart. Good luck.’ I touch base.”

“I respect her. I like her,” Affleck added. “She’s put up with some stuff that was unfair in her life and I’m really pleased to see her successful.”

Not everyone, will be rooting for Lopez and Affleck. After all, these guys made the notorious flop Gigli. As CNN put it in 2004: “Gigli is really, really bad.” – The Washington Post
