HLAUDI TELLS US WHERE SABC IS HEADED – HE’S DITCHING WEST TO GO SOUTH

-

I WATCHED the news today, oh boy! It was the Friday SABC3 news at 7pm. It was the usual kind of news, but near the end they saw fit to present us with some interesting news – it might even have been important news, who knows?

We were shown a few minutes’ snippet of chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng giving a sort of lecture to Wits students about his plan for transformation at the SABC. His idea is to allow all 11 official languages to have airtime on the three TV channels. No problem with that idea, one would guess; but, as Motsoeneng said, he would need to get rid of some English programmes.

That is when he mentioned Dr Phil’s programme with disdain. This programme came from somewhere in the West, he said disparagingly. It would be replaced. He obviously did not enjoy that programme. Psychology is just too much for the mind. He mentioned no other programmes.

We need to remind the esteemed COO that the four-year-old, defunct Dr Phil show comes from the same place out west that The Jamie Foxx Show comes from, as well as many others seen on the SABC. Somewhere out west is also where the Olympic Games were held.

If you did not manage to pass geography at school, Hlaudi, then it would be a good idea to look at a world map and see all the countries that lie out west. One of them is the US. That’s the place from which you buy all your second-hand garbage. You must have heard of it.

The next exciting episode of the Hlaudi Motsoeneng show will probably be seen again soon in the slot meant for news. But this will depend on His Master’s whims.
