Gorgeous George, the world’s most handsome man

-

HE HAS held on to his heart-throb status for decades.

And while George Clooney may be a little greyer than before, he is still able to beat off competition from younger celebrities to be named the most handsome of them all.

The 56-year-old actor’s face has been found to have almost perfect dimensions based on the “Golden Ratio”, a mathematical formula of beauty dating back to the ancient Greeks.

This states that if you take two measurements, one should be 1.618 times bigger than the other.

A plastic surgeon analysed eight measures of actors’ faces using a computer programme. A perfect 100% overall score would mean all measurements fit the 1.618 ratio.

Clooney got the closest to perfection, scoring 91.86%.

He was just ahead of Bradley Cooper, 42, who got 91.8%, and Brad Pitt, 53, with 90.51%.

Former boy band One Direction star Harry Styles, 23, got a score of 89.63%, although when looking at specific features, he had the most handsome eyes and chin.

David Beckham had the most perfectly shaped face, while Ryan Gosling can boast the perfect nose, based on its length compared to its width.

Dr Julian de Silva, who runs the Centre For Advanced Facial Cosmetic And Plastic Surgery in London, said: “George Clooney has beautiful facial symmetry and gets closer than any other man to having what the Greeks considered the perfect face.”

Kendra Schmid, professor of biostatistics at Nebraska University in the US, said the study “adds to the evidence that facial features in proportion with the Golden Ratio are considered more attractive”.

“Of course there is more to beauty than just geometry, but the Golden Ratio appears to play a large role.”

WHAT IS THE GOLDEN RATIO?

Thought up about 2 500 years ago, the Golden Ratio is a mathematical formula for beauty.

It involves taking two measurements, and one distance being 1.618 times bigger than the other is considered ideal. When applied to faces, an example would be measuring the width of the nose and the width of the mouth, and the mouth should be 1.618 times wider than the nose.

A beautiful face will have many examples of the golden ratio when you compare lots of different measurements.

Leonardo da Vinci is thought to have used the ratio to draw Mona Lisa and the Vitruvian Man, while actress Marilyn Monroe was close to fitting the ratio.

It can also apply to buildings and objects, and is thought to have been used to build the Parathenon in Athens in the 5th century, BC, and to design the Aston Martin. – Daily Mail
