Jordaan maintains his silence on singer Ferguson’s rape claim

- STAFF REPORTER

SAFA boss Danny Jordaan is yet to respond to rape allegations levelled against him by singer and for mer ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson.

Ferguson broke her silence about the alleged sexual assault after 24 years on Wednesday, claiming the for mer Nelson Mandela Bay mayor violated her at a Holiday Inn in Port Elizabeth in 1993.

The Saturday Star tried contacting Jordaan numerous times yesterday without success. Text messages went unanswered.

Ferguson told media this week that her decision to speak about her ordeal after all these years was prompted by the recent #MeToo campaign, which was sparked by sexual assault claims by various women against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.

The 56-year-old says she was not planning to name her abuser but it was after the overwhelming response to her Facebook post that changed her mind.

In a post and a subsequent blog entry, Ferguson recounted a chilling tale. Almost 24 years ago, in the hotel, she alleged that a “pleasant and entertaining” Jordaan asked her to join him for a drink after a performance she had given at a sports dinner.

“I accepted his invitation to join him for a drink at the bar but said I needed to go up to my suite and change from my performance dress,” she wrote.

“He joined me in the lift and said he would wait for me. I felt a little uneasy as he entered my suite, but beckoned him into the lounge and asked him to wait there while I changed.”

Ferguson alleged: “I entered my bedroom, closed the door and began to change. A few minutes later the door opened and he entered and without a word grabbed me and forced me onto the bed from behind. He overpowered me and painfully raped me.

“It must have been over in about 20 seconds although it felt like a lifetime. He left immediately without saying a word.”

Meanwhile, another woman is said to have accused Jordaan of raping her, according to Ferguson.

“Just yesterday (Wednesday) I got a message from somebody who experienced the same thing with him,” Ferguson told HeraldLIVE from Sweden on Thursday.

“I don’t know if she will be ready to disclose a relative of somebody in a very high position. It’s a big step to step out,” she said.

Ferguson said she wouldn’t be pressing any charges against Jordaan following the allegations.
