Prep schools up for the challenge
SINCE 1986, St Stithians Boys’ Prep and Durban Preparatory High School (DPHS) have competed against each other, on the first weekend of February, either in Durban or Johannesburg. 2019 was the year for St Stithians BP to host the “Prep” boys. Ninety boys made the journey from Durban, and 80 of those boys were hosted by St Stithians BP parents.
Over the years a variety of sporting codes have been included in the tour, and this year the boys competed in T20 cricket, golf, tennis, water polo and time-format cricket. On Thursday, January 31, the cricket teams took to the field, with DPHS bettering St Stithians in the T20 cricket matches. The first and second team matches were called off due to lightning in the Sandton area.
On Friday, February 1, St Stithians BP golfers managed to burn up the Bryanston Country Club golf course in a quadrangular festival against DPHS, St John’s Prep and The Ridge School. Sadly the rain set in in the afternoon, which resulted in the tennis matches and the water polo quadrangular being called off.
The water polo match was rescheduled for the next morning. St Stithians won an exciting game. The Saturday cricket matches were very competitive, yet played with the highest standards of sportsmanship and friendship.
St Stithians managed to win three matches, DPHS two matches and two matches ended in a draw.
