SA TO SEE PHASES OF LUNAR ECLIPSE

-

SOUTH Africa will be able to see phases of a lunar eclipse early tomorrow.

During this event, the moon will dip just about half of its face into Earth’s penumbral shadow, beginning at 1.45pm EST. This eclipse will last for three hours, 18 minutes and 13 seconds, according to Nasa.

The entire eclipse will be visible from Central and South America, the south-eastern half of North America, and western Africa.

In Gauteng the eclipse can be seen from 5.07am on Sunday when the Earth’s penumbra starts touching the Moon’s face.

The maximum eclipse is from 6.29am when the Moon is closest to the centre of the shadow, but by this time the Moon is close to the horizon it will already be light.

The next lunar eclipse will be a total lunar eclipse which will be in May 2022. | Staff Reporter
