Little DJ Arch jn looks all set to spin his way into a new world record

SOUTH Africa’s youngest DJ, Arch Junior, wants his name in the history books. Next week, the four-year-old will attempt to break a Guinness World Record.

The young DJ, whose real name is Oratile Hlongwane, wants to be the “youngest club DJ”. He will need to spin about 25 songs and keep a crowd dancing for an hour.

The current Guinness World Record is held by six-year-old Brandon Duke from Canada.

Last year, DJ Arch jn attempted to break Duke’s record but he was unable to play for an hour. He was only three.

Now the youngest winner of South Africa’s Got Talent will get his chance again at the McDonald’s U/14 Schools League national finals at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, next Saturday.

“At that time it was kind of impossible for him to play that long. He could only do 15 to 20 minutes, then his concentration would go,” Glen Hlongwane, Arch jn’s dad, told the Saturday Star.

For the past few months, Hlongwane has been challenging his son to play hour-long sets to prepare him for one of his biggest gigs.

“I have been challenging him slowly and we add new songs that he loves. We have been building up to breaking the record and now I feel he can do it.”

While he may only be four years old, Arch jn gets excited at the thought of breaking a world record, his dad said.

“When I drive him to crèche I tell him the big day is coming, and you will have to play an hour set so you can officially be the world’s youngest DJ. Then he says ‘really’, with a smile on his face.

“Then I tell him you will have to play about 20 to 25 songs, and he says, ‘yoh! that’s a lot’. He laughs, but he seems so confident, and I do believe in him, I always did.”

As a parent, Hlongwane said he would be extremely thrilled if his son made it into the record books.

“Our aim has always been to give him (Arch jn) as many opportunities as we can. He really loves this deejaying thing, so we will help him to become the best at it.”

“I must say he has improved so much since he won SA’s Got Talent. It’s very impressive how his ear has developed to even understand when two songs match and when they don’t. He can pick it up, and I guess to me that is the most amazing thing about him, besides his knowing what all those buttons do.

“It’s so hard to explain how he does it or understands it so well. Sometimes if God gives you a gift he gives you a gift, no one will understand but you.”
