Angling trolls surface after big catch

-

LONDON: Tom Doherty was thrilled when he caught a monster carp that smashed the British record.

After a 20-minute struggle, he reeled in a fish known as the “Big Rig”, which weighed a colossal 31.8kg, beating the previous record by 2.1kg.

But Doherty’s jubilation has been tainted after he and his family received death threats from angry rivals. The angling world has been fiercely div- ided over Big Rig, with some fishermen claiming the “handreared” carp was already a record-breaker when it was placed in the fishery and should not be verified as a new record.

Doherty, 33, an investment banker from Basildon, Essex, landed the carp at The Avenue fishery in Shropshire on Monday and the online attacks began almost immediately, including rape threats to his partner and child. – Daily Mail
