WHAT HOPE DO WE HAVE WITH OUR PRESIDENT FAST ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL?
I WAS flabbergasted, while watching Pravin Gordhan’s mini-budget speech, to see President Jacob Zuma falling asleep.
Maybe it was too tiring for him to listen to all those numbers, maybe he was applying his mind, praying, or does not give two hoots about what is happening to the country.
Or just maybe he concentrates better with his eyes closed, sleeping is an alternative state of consciousness, or the country’s finances and future are not interesting enough to him, as this was the most important mini-budget date, and will be, depending on the pronouncements of the credit agencies, whether the country be given a “junk status” rating.
Across the world sleeping on the job is regarded as misconduct and deemed a dismissible offence. What a great opportunity this would have been, but unfortunately it does not apply to parliamentarians in this country, as we have seen so often.
What hope does the country have when the captain of the ship is asleep while the iceberg that is going to sink us looms in front?
Shame on you, Mr President.
