Joseph’s reprise, Annie, and a whole lot more holiday fun

-

I’d expect that director and writer Janice Honeyman has lined up her usual special effects for the kids and topical jokes for the adults. ● On a darker note, Paul Slabolepszy’s dramatic Suddenly the Storm is at the Auto and General Theatre on the Square, delving back into history and pain of the apartheid era, until November 19. ● That’s also the theme of Lamento at the Market Theatre; a multimedia production, that is only on this weekend, inspired by stories from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. ● For music fans there’s Vocal Explosion at the Market Theatre, with Maya Spector and Asanda Mqiki weaving beloved jazz standards, popular covers and original compositions. ● At the UJ Arts Centre the first Dean’s Concert offers opera singers soprano Siphamandla Yakupa and tenor Lukhanyo Moyake, baritone Federico Freschi and the UJ Choir in A Grand Night for Singing tonight. It’s a free concert, but donations are welcome. ● For the children, the Cat in the Hat is back with Seussical Jr, a collection of crazy stories at the People’s Theatre, and at the National Children’s Theatre Mr Popper’s Penguins are touring the world – a boisterous dancing bunch of black and white birds. Both shows are on until Christmas.
