TALK RADIO 702 BIDS FOND FAREWELL TO REDI TLHABI

- STAFF REPORTER

AFTER 12 years with Talk Radio 702, popular radio host Redi Tlhabi has announced she’s leaving the station.

The aw a r d - wi n n i n g author has been offered a fellowship in the US, which she will take up next year.

While 702 have not yet confirmed the exact date of her departure, they said that Tlhabi would continue on her daily afternoon drive show for the “next few months”.

The 39-year-old announced her intention to take an exciting new direction in her jour ney, which means she needs to step off her daily after noon drive show on the talk station.

The radio station said that Tlhabi’s fellowship in the US in 2018 will be an opportunity for her to broaden her broadcast knowledge and expertise.

The talk show host said that it was with a heavy heart that she steps down from her show:

“I am attached and dedicated to Primedia, which has been my home for 12 years,” said Tlhabi.

“In my travels and endeavours, I will keep this amazing place close to my heart. Primedia, and 702 in particular, have played a crucial role in the evolution of our democracy and consistently given a voice to the voiceless.

“The commitment to the country and exercise of independent, hard- hitting but fair jour nalism make me very proud to have been a part of this great institution.”

Before she leaves, however, Tlhabi said she hopes to focus her energy and time on working with various local and international stakeholders to devise and launch an effective campaign against sexual violence.

The popular radio station said they were saddened by the departure of one of their leading talk show hosts.

“We admire and respect her for her choices and wish her the very best with this new chapter,” said 702 station manager, Thabisile Mbete.

“The good news is that Redi will continue to contribute to Primedia for the foreseeable future, even after she stops doing her regular show. We will continue to work with her as opportunities arise, particularly around social justice issues.”

Tlhabi’s replacement will be announced in due course.
