Taught to talk torque
not help in case of unfortunate circumstances on the road.
This workshop from a lady who is such an expert and ambassador for safe driving was a great eyeopener.
Yet again, I saw our masculinity being challenged.
Most of the men out there wanted to grovel because of our ignorance. We somehow think men are born with the genes to know how everything in a car works.
However, Mpofu proved us wrong, and without admitting it to her face, we knew she had helped us.
And she walked away with so much respect from men who had earlier underestimated her ability.
For me, this experience grew my newly-found love for bakkies. I no longer believe the stereotype about bakkies being cars for old men with farms. I would definitely rock up to my friend’s 30th birthday in one, with panache.
Oh, even on our way back, I clobbered the guys right through to where we started, at Nissan Sandburg Corner, Malibongwe and Avon Road.
I guess I couldn’t help it too, but leave my soft and feminine touch outside the bush car, let my masculinity drive me and be competitive.
Like I said, it isn’t about how fast your car is, but how well you drive.
