More time to help young girls

-

THE MILLION Comforts campaign to make sure no girl misses a day of school because it’s that time of the month has been extended until next Sunday.

More than five million packs of sanitary towels had been donated countrywide in all the participating Dis-Chem stores by the official end of the campaign last weekend, but as Dis-Chem’s Penny Stein explains, due to the unprecedented demand by the public and corporate sponsors, the campaign was extended until Sunday, July 31.

“We are delighted we have been given the opportunity to expand the campaign by a week due to incredible support from corporates and the unprecedented public demand from shoppers asking us to hold it until after pay day.”

It is estimated that teenage girls living in poverty can lose up to a fifth of their high school careers through shame – because they don’t have sanitary towels for when they menstruate.

Million Comforts, run by Dis-Chem in partnership with Independent Media (Saturday Star, Independent on Saturday), encourages you to donate a pack of sanitary towels to ensure that no girl misses school because she’s having her period. – Staff Reporter
