SA ‘gay’ duo arrested, facing charges in Tanzania
TWO South Africans are being held and interrogated by Tanzanian police in Dar es Salaam for allegedly promoting homosexuality.
It is reported the two were part of a group of 12 men, including a Ugandan and nine Tanzanians who were arrested at a hotel in the city, as the police gather evidence in preparation for arraign- ing the suspects to face criminal charges in court.
Homosexuality is criminalised in Tanzania under a colonial-era law banning sex acts “against (the) order of nature”. The authorities there are cracking down on the activities of LGBT people, even ordering clinics to stop offering services to homosexuals. – ANA
