Activated charcoal has been a trend in the beauty and wellness fields for some time, so it’s only natural that someone would try it out with food.

It works with everything­from ice cream and pancakes, to burger buns and pasta.

There are even places that make black lemonade. I expect it to be a big hit with ice-creams and frozen yoghurt, more than any other food.

Not everyone is a fan of black food because of the health risks. Fans are warned that too much charcoal can cause vomiting and constipati­on, and more alarmingly, render some medicines ineffectiv­e.
