YOUNG MPS SHOULD CHAMPION ‘PRO-POOR INITIATIVES’ THROUGH SALARIES
DEAR Julius Sello Malema Receive my complimentary greetings post the 54th ANC national conference which elected the presidency of Cyril Ramaphosa. The EFF was launched before the 2014 national elections, a political party premised on the leftist ideology or philosophy. We are looking forward to vibrancy and dynamism of the parliamentary deliberations spearheaded by the young fighters.
I take the leisure of my vacation to write to you as an ordinary concerned citizen. Apparently, the December holidays provide a conducive platform for villagers to interact with books in order to minimise the currency of boredom.
In light of the free education grant system pronounced recently by President Jacob Zuma, there is an urgent need to reprioritise the national fiscus. In defining education, Julius Nyerere posited that “Education is not a way to escape poverty, it is a way of fighting it”.
This letter is preoccupied solely with the integration of the concept of political theory and practice.
On the matter of parliamentary salary and perks increments since 1994, President Nelson Mandela’s attempt in 1994 to establish a commission to champion a motion to decrease parliamentarians’ salaries and perks was defeated. A myriad pro-increment facts were expertly presented for consideration.
This letter persuades young parliamentarians to champion the pro-poor initiatives funded through their salary increment and perks.
This will inculcate a new emerging culture of practising what we preach rather than theorising.
The time for politricks has lapsed. We need genuine leadership which aligns its life with its ideologies.
