HAMBURGERS are always a favourite. However, we don’t have to make them a naughty treat. They can be healthy with delightful flavour. We have removed the bun (less carbs, more protein) and the same amount of eating pleasure. HEALTHY BURGER ALTERNATIV­E 1kg lean beef mince 1 onion finely chopped 2 tbs oil 2 tbs balsamic vinegar 2 eggs 1½ cups bread crumbs ¾ cup fresh basil finely chopped 2 tbs ground coriander 3 cloves of garlic finely chopped 2 tsp coarse black pepper 2 tsp coarse salt Oil to fry patties ½ cup pomegranat­e seeds 1 pineapple slice

Fry onions and garlic, add balsamic vinegar.

Place mince in mixing bowl, add eggs, bread crumbs, coriander, basil, pepper and salt, add onions, mix well. Portion into 8 round meatballs (tennis ball size), flatten into 2cm thick patties.

Heat oil to medium temperatur­e, fry patties 2 minutes per side.

Serve with fresh garden salad, garden greens or a side of your choice.

I have served this dish with pomegranat­e seeds and pineapple slices.
