Chiefs to re-assess Chawapiwa?

-

News reaching the Siya crew is that Baroka FC are open to receiving offers for one of their star wingers, in Talent Chawapiwa.

The Zimbabwean has been a standout player in the PSL since his arrival in 2017. He set the stage alight during his debut season and was linked to one of the PSL big guns soon after.

It was widely reported across the media that Kaizer Chiefs were keen on bringing the 26-year-old player on board ahead of the 2018/19 season, with indications at the time that Baroka were looking to cash in on around R3.5 million for the transfer fee. Despite the talks behind the scenes, a deal never materialized and, in the end, Baroka stated that the winger would be staying with the club for the rest of the season.

It has now been revealed by Siya sources in the know that the Limpopo-based side is open to listening to offers for the player, and should a fair financial offer be presented, the club would be willing to cash in and part ways with the player.

At present, it is uncertain whether Baroka are looking to land around the reported R3.5m that was previously reported, or if they are open to negotiations.

According to Siya sources, Chiefs are assessing the situation, though have not made the player a priority. Following the arrival of marquee signings Khama Billiat and Lebogang Manyama, Chiefs are keen on Chawapiwa but will only sign him if it makes business sense to them, and it is believed that they are not willing to pay a big-money transfer fee.

However, indications are that Chiefs are not the only team linked to the player. According to the sources, SuperSport United are keeping close tabs on the player and could make a move during the January transfer window.

Chawapiwa is seen as possible long-term replacement for Thuso Phala, on the wing, as Phala gets on in age.

Phala will be turning 33 next year and, while he remains one of the star players at the club, it seems that SuperSport are planning for the future.
