Paez & Solinas ‘debacle’ won’t affect derby selection

-

The debacle between Gustavo Paez and Giovanni Solinas will not have any impact on the Kaizer Chiefs head coach’s selection for the upcoming Soweto derby.

Paez has been heavily rebuked by the football fraternity after appearing to have deliberately ignored the handshake of his head coach, Solinas, following his substitution in Kaizer Chiefs’ win in the Macufe Cup last weekend.

A source close to the incident confirmed to the Siya crew that the player was not aware that Solinas had presented his hand.

“I asked Gustavo, he said he was looking to the ground and he didn’t see the coach. (In) the changing room someone showed the video to Gustavo and he went straight to the coach and showed it to him apologising and the coach said to him that he was aware that he wasn’t looking, so there’s no problem about it,” the source confirmed to Soccer Laduma.

In addition, a source confirmed to the crew that despite the incident being tainted in a negative light, it won’t have any impact on the Italian head coach’s selection for their upcoming fixtures.

Chiefs will face Black Leopards in the Telkom Knockout this coming weekend, before preparing for the big clash against Orlando Pirates.

With all the players fighting for a spot in the derby, Paez could find himself amongst the lot despite the incident that occurred last weekend.

In addition, a source has revealed that the incident will also not affect any potential contract talks with the player, with Chiefs expected to make a decision about whether or not they will be extending Paez’s stay beyond June 30, 2019.
