Quick One-Two’s

I couldn’t believe it when the Zimbabwean national team goalkeeper got a yellow card for being injured. The referee ordered for him to be nursed off the pitch. He even instructed the opponents to carry on with play. Is the Southern region not part of the African continent? The reason for this is when the Western and Northern African teams kill time, the referees don’t care as they give for that particular injured player enough time to be treated on the field without being chased away. However, congratulations to Zimbabwe for the victory and for the great discipline they showed in the first and second halves. Terah Maqepula, Mt Fletcher I couldn’t agree more with Stephen Appiah in last week’s issue of Soccer Laduma about Africa giving local coaches not only a chance but support and empowerment. I can’t get over the statement that Kaizer Motaung once made that “local coaches are not ready to coach Chiefs and Pirates”. It was like Steve Komphela was brought in to prove that theory. What made things worse was that Steve himself wasn’t firm enough to demand quality players after coming into a big team that had won the double the previous season. That’s why I once labelled him a puppet at Chiefs. Are big teams ever going to give him a chance again? His profile suffered as a result. If they don’t buy the players you need, make noise about it in the media. You are going to be fired anyway. When Stuart Baxter was brought in, Chiefs management went all out to get him quality players.
