PHIRI LINKED WITH AJAX

-

A former Bidvest Wits winger is being linked with a move to the National First Division following his exit from The Students.

Malawian winger, Gerald Phiri, has been released from his contract with Wits after returning to the club in June this year, following his loan stint with Platinum Stars.

Phiri played for Mighty Wanderers in Malawi and CAPS United in Zimbabwe, before signing for Wits, though the Braamfontein-based side had sent him out on loan to Township Rollers and Dikwena.

The 25-year-old’s stay with Wits has now come to an end, and a move to the Cape is being dis- cussed behind the scenes.

Ajax are fighting for promotion back to the top tier, with indications that they are looking to continue bolstering their squad to get back into the Absa Premiership.

However, indications are that Phiri will only be able to sign a professional contract in the upcoming January transfer window, despite being a free agent.

This is in accordance to the FIFA rule, which restricts movement outside of a window for players that weren’t free when the window closed.

Now, it remains to be seen whether or not Ajax will look to offer the player a training stint with the club, before possibly looking to bring himon board during the upcoming January transfer window.
