Stars open talks for Ngobeni

-

Free State Stars are believed to have taken one step closer in securing the services of one of Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeepers.

It is no secret that Stars are looking to get Thela Ngobeni back to the club on a permanent basis. He was part of their successful squad last season in what was his second loan spell with the Bethlehem-based outfit.

It’s evident that the 29-year-old left his mark at Ea Lla Koto, with indications that the club’s management rate him highly and are keen to have him back at the club.

According to Siya sources in the

know, Ngobeni is being tracked by no less than three PSL clubs – however, Free State Stars are believed to be leading the race. In addition, the Siya source close to the club’s dealings has indicated that talks about a possible move in January have been initiated.

Ngobeni, who helped Ea Lla Koto lift the 2018 Nedbank Cup, will see his contract with Sundowns come to an end on June 30; however, he could land up spending the second half of the 2018/19 season on loan with Stars, and ultimately land a permanent contract ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Ngobeni has not featured in a single competitive game for Sundowns since his return to the club this year, having to compete for a place in the team with the likes of Reyaad Pieterse, Kennedy Mweene and the Brazilians’ number one, Denis Onyango.

Indications are that the loan move between Downs and Stars will be concluded in the coming months and an official announcement could be made in the first week of January, should talks run smoothly.
