AGENT ACCUSED OF SCAMMING ASPIRING FOOTBALLER

-

A South African football agent, Alpheus Thantsha, has been accused of scamming an aspiring footballer of R5000.

Hakeem Mohamed says he was introduced to Thantsha by his former teammate at Polokwane City’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge team.

“I have been scammed by a guy called Alpheus Thantsha who is an agent. I have looked up and I realise that I am not the first person to be scammed by him. There are other people that were scammed by this guy and have posted on Twitter and Facebook about him. I would like to warn other people about him,” said Mohamed.

“I was playing for the Polokwane City MDC team, but I wasn’t happy there. I was trying to get a better deal elsewhere. One of my former teammates introduced me to Alpheus. I told Alpheus that I am from Cape Town and he said to me that he knows people and clubs in Cape Town. We spoke about the possibility of him finding me a team.

“He said he was going to organise for me to join either Cape Town City or Stellenbosch FC. He later told me that Cape Town City were done with signing players and the club that he was still negotiating with was Stellenbosch. I gave him R5 000. He didn’t get me a club. He has been sending me from pillar to post.

“I told him I want my money. He said I should give him my banking details as he was going to refund me. He hasn’t done that. I told him that I could see that the whole thing wasn’t working and he should just give me my money back and I would pull out of the deal,” added the youngster.

Contacted for comment, Thantsha has denied any knowledge of Mohamed.

“I have not dealt with any player from Cape Town recently. I deal with players from around Jo’burg most of the time and Cape Town is not my hunting ground. I don’t know what these things said about me are about. Recently there were reports that I was in Bloemfontein, but I wasn’t there.

“I have realised that my old cellphone number that I used to have is still operating from somewhere. Somebody is using that phone to commit some fraudulent activities. There are so many fraudulent activities happening and my name is being used. I don’t want anything to do with football at the moment,” said Thantsha.
