Pirates won because…

Good day fellow football lovers

On the Soweto Derby

This time around, this game has proved beyond any reasonable doubt why it is called the biggest game in the COSAFA region. It was declared a sold-out affair a week before match day and it really doesn’t get any bigger than this one. Even those who didn’t go to the stadium were gathered in parks watching the game on big screens and some were watching in pubs. But, all in all, I have come to realise that the country comes to a standstill when the Soweto Derby plays. The game itself didn’t disappoint and Orlando Pirates won because they took their chances, not because they were better than their opponents. It was a 50-50 affair, in my opinion. I have to applaud those 90 000plus supporters who were at the stadium for behaving in a very good manner and in the spirit of the beautiful game. We need that kind of support in all the games in future.

On Bantwana in the World Cup

Well, as football supporters, we wish Bantwana Bantwana a successful FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup tournament. They have done a tremendous job by qualifying for the world showpiece. They are in a tough group, but that is where you prove yourself in football, against tough opponents. I hope SAFA have a budget to send supporters to blow vuvuzelas and support the young girls in Uruguay.

On Sundowns v Baroka in Telkom Knockout

I know that my team Mamelodi Sundowns hasn’t won this trophy many times, but even coach Pitso Mosimane has said that he would like to win this one. I hope the team doesn’t let us down this time around. We are desperate for it so that we can complete the double with the league title come end of the season. Until we talk again, Bishop Motona
