Three PSL clubs linked to Bucs’ Makola

-

Two starts from 14 matches played by Orlando Pirates in all competitions so far this season wouldn’t be the statistic that an experienced player like Mpho Makola would be happy about going into the end of the first half of the 2018/19 season.

Bibo, as Makola is known in football circles, has been limited to watching from the bench for the most part of the season, with the likes of Xola Mlambo and Ben Motshwari the preferred options in the middle of the park. However, the fact that he played against Kaizer Chiefs in the recent Soweto Derby proves that he is still a high profile player at the club.

In context, with the player’s lack of game-time, Siya sources have indicated that Makola is being monitored by no less than three clubs, including Bidvest Wits.

Having previously been linked with a move to Wits, indications are that the Braamfontein-based side could look at signing Makola, should the opportunity arise. It is believed that The Students could make changes to their squad during the January transfer window and open the door for Makola.

“Wits is still interested in Makola. The club have always been admirers of the player and you could expect an approach from them for him,” said the source.

Chippa United and Baroka FC are also keeping close tabs on him and have, according to Siya sources, made informal enquires into his availability. According to the source, both clubs are keen on him and could make a formal offer for his signature during the January the transfer window.

The 32-year-old has also been linked to Cape Town City in the past, though indications at the moment are that he is not on the Cape-based side’s lists of targets. That, however, could change as we approach January.

Makola’s contract with Pirates is set to expire in June 2020, after the Soweto giants exercised the one-year options on the player’s deal in January this year.
