MATOMBO TO RETURN OVERSEAS?

Chris Matombo, whose future with Black Leopards is unclear at the moment, is believed to be pondering on moving back abroad despite signing for the PSL newcomers only a few months ago.

Following some difficulties in the early stages of his career in the PSL, Matombo took a bold decision when he left Mzansi to join Qormi FC in Malta. On his arrival at the club, Matombo’s talent was quickly realised as he was made a regular in the team, playing week-in and week-out.

The Thohoyandou-born player did not disappoint as he helped the side win promotion to the Premier Division in Malta. Having successfully managed to revive his career overseas, and because he was still feeling that he had unfinished business left in the PSL at only 24 years of age, he decided to return home after receiving an offer from Leopards.

However, joining the Limpopo-based outfit hasn’t proved to be ideal for him as he has not played in any official matches for the side so far this season.

“Chris Matombo is likely to go back to Europe to further his career. It doesn’t make sense that the boy isn’t playing here (PSL), while he was playing regularly for the team he was with overseas. He came back here because he wanted to play closer to his family, but he is not getting gametime,” a source confirmed to the Siya crew.

“There is interest in the player from clubs in Europe that know him and know what he can do on the field. Clubs in Malta are making enquiries about the boy. There is a team there called Valletta, which is under new owners, that is interested in Matombo,” the informant added.

Valletta is the same team that is reportedly interested in signing retired Jamaican athlete, the legendary Usain Bolt, who has reportedly been offered a two-year contract by the club.

As reported in edition 1084 of Soccer Laduma, Matombo had been in a contractual dispute with Leopards, following an alleged proposed salary cut by the club after the midfielder had already signed a contract with them to return from overseas.
