Chiefs open to Billiat offers

-

Prior to the short Christmas recess, the Siya crew reported that Kaizer Chiefs were expected to exercise their oneyear option on Khama Billiat.

With the attacker’s contract coming to an end on June 30, it was understood at the time that Amakhosi did not want to risk losing one of their high earners on a free and were keen to hold on to him for at least one more season.

But highly reliable sources privy to transfer movements at Naturena have informed the Siya crew that Chiefs are prepared to sell Billiat!

A look at his record since joining the Glamour Boys as a free agent back in July 2018, after he’d rejected an offer from

Mamelodi Sundowns to remain at Chloorkop for a few more years, suggests that Billiat has been a shadow of the player Chiefs signed.

In his five-year stint at Downs, the 30-year-old scored a little over 50 goals in more than 150 appearances, helping them win three league titles and the CAF Champions League, but his Chiefs stats pale in comparison.

Though he’s only been at Chiefs since 2018, he has managed just 15 goals in 79 matches, while battling with injuries and poor form during that period.

He is currently on the mend from a fractured leg bone, but when he does return, it could be his final games as a Chiefs player.

Siya sources have informed the crew that Billiat has had interest from Al Ahly and Pyramids in Egypt, but the player, according to insiders, prefers staying in Mzansi.

Chiefs, however, want a return on investment and even though they didn’t spend a transfer fee to lure Billiat to Naturena, it is understood he is one of their high earners, with a reported salary of close to R8-million per annum.

To sell him, Amakhosi will have to exercise the option, which Siya sources have indicated they intend on doing. It’s a story that will unfold as the season progresses, and the Siya crew will keep a close watch on developments at Naturena.
