Poor signing so far

-

From all of the data and analysis of Kambole’s game, we can see a picture of a player who is struggling to score goals for many reasons. There is no doubt that he simply does not suit playing in a direct team where he has to try win flick-ons or deliver crosses. It is also clear that he is not a winger and should be used in a central striker role or not at all. However, his coaches can’t take all of the blame. Kambole did get many games when he first joined and simply did not perform. Hunt gave him a run of recent starts against Primeiro de Agosto home and away in the CAF Champions League and against Maritzburg United. He just didn’t take those chances, albeit he was played as a winger once again for much of those outings.

If the Glamour Boys want to help Kambole to deliver, then they have to face the fact that he is not a lone striker nor a winger and has to play in a two-man attack alongside a strike partner. On paper, Nurkovic and Kambole would be well suited to play as a duo and Hunt has used a 4-4-2 shape many times but has often used Bernard Parker in his old striker role instead of handing Kambole that opportunity. In many ways, the Zambian resembles Timo Werner at Chelsea. He has speed, favours the left channel and can finish when given regular chances. However, you need to build the formation around him or he won’t thrive. Thomas Tuchel has put Werner back up front in a leftsided striker role often with a partner. Hunt may need to do the same or it may be time for Chiefs to cut their losses and try to sell Kambole. It has so far been a poor signing and a waste of money. It may make Bobby Motaung reluctant to spend transfer fees on foreign players in the next transfer window. As they say, once bitten, twice shy.
