Chiefs waiting, Swallows coy on Sekgota plans

-

Swallows FC have remained mum on their future plans for on-loan attacker Kgaogelo Sekgota.

Sekgota, who spent last season at the now defunct Bidvest Wits, joined the Birds on a short-term deal in November last year, after learning that he did not form part of the plans at his mother club Vitória Setúbal in the Portuguese topflight.

Prior to the player joining Swallows, the crew reported that Sekgota, as well as Sifiso Hlanti, Phathutshedzo Nange and Brandon Petersen, were all offered contracts by Chiefs, although the club’s FIFA transfer ban meant that the quartet were unable to join Gavin Hunt’s side at the time.

However, they are expected back at Naturena in July, with indications that respective agreements have already been agreed to in principle.

Sekgota did not take long to establish himself in coach Brandon Truter’s high-flying side and has made 11 appearances in all competitions so far. His only goal for the Birds came in Swallows’ 1-all draw against Cape Town City this past weekend.

Now, with all indications that the player will be heading to Chiefs in July when with his loan deal at Swallows comes to an end, the crew contacted the team to enquire whether they had other plans and were keen to hold onto the 23-yearold beyond the current season.

“At this stage, we are not talking any player movements. Anyone who is at Swallows stays there until we get a full report from the coach at the end of the season. Of course, there will be deals done, but it will only be at the end of the season,” Swallows FC Chairman David Mogashoa told the crew.

It remains to be seen if Sekgota does make his way back to Chiefs as expected at the end of the season - or if Swallows will push to land him on a permanent deal.
