Langerman pens new Downs deal

-

After several months of negotiations, Tebogo Langerman has finally penned a new two-year deal at Mamelodi Sundowns.

This all but ensures that the veteran left back will reach a decade of service at Chloorkop at the end of next season, a milestone achieved by very few and qualifying him as a Downs legend given all the trophies he has won with the club.

Langerman, who turns 35 in May, joined Sundowns from crosstown rivals SuperSport United almost nine years ago and has managed an impressive trophy haul over the years.

He has also worked under four different coaches in his spell at the club, having signed while Dutch legend Johan Neeskens was still in charge, before he was sacked and replaced by Pitso Mosimane in 2012, an era that led to unprecedented success.

Siya sources have indicated to the crew that Langerman has put pen to paper on a two-year deal and it suggests that it could be his final contract considering he will be 37 when it comes to an end.

It’s very rare that PSL players keep playing beyond that age, though there are exceptions and

Langerman could be one of them.

He is closing in on 300 appearances for Sundowns and that means he is a few matches away from joining the likes of Daniel ‘Mambush’ Mudau, Isaac Shai and Michael Manzini, who played for the club way beyond their 30s.

Langerman’s teammates, goalkeepers Kennedy Mweene and Denis Onyango, as well as captain Hlompho Kekana, are also in the same age bracket and were given respective new contracts as a sign of loyalty over the last three years or so.

Mulaudzi, as Alexander was reluctant to relocate to Venda.

It took a while before Alexander found a new home, while apparently waiting to see whether Amakhosi would win their appeal to have the sanction overturned by the Court of Arbitration For Sport (CAS), which did not happen.

So, the midfielder joined Odisha FC in the Indian Premier League, reuniting with Baxter after the two had worked together at SuperSport United.

Baxter was sacked by Odisha last month for his shocking ‘rape’ comments, which he later apologised for, and it’s now understood that Chiefs are considering making an approach for the box-to-box midfielder.

The Siya crew, however, has been informed that Alexander penned a two-year deal with the Indian outfit, meaning Amakhosi would have to part ways with a decent sum of money to compensate Odisha if he were to leave.

It will effectively be a transfer fee, though it could be at a cut-price fee. It remains to be seen then just how determined Chiefs are to land Alexander and add him to their squad next season to work with another former coach of his, in Hunt.

Chiefs can register new players from July 1.
