YEYE ON COURSE FOR SCOTTISH FA QUALIFICATION

-

Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane is doing well in preparing for life after football, with the Siya crew learning that the former Kaizer Chiefs player is on course to finish a highly-rated coaching course with the Scottish FA.

In 2019, before he parted ways with SuperSport United, the Tshwane outfit’s CEO Stan Matthews confirmed that they were planning to help fund the veteran player’s coaching studies.

At the time, Letsholonyane had been praised for his influence at Matsatsantsa, in guiding the young players on and off the field. The box-to-box midfielder has since left the club, currently on the books of TS Galaxy, though his ambitions of developing his coaching skills are still very much alive.

“Yeye is serious in doing his coaching badges and he has been busy attending courses. Last season, while in the bio-bubble, he was busy with one from the Scottish FA – the UEFA B - and is nearing the completion of it. The Scottish FA course is well-known for developing coaches like (Jose) Mourinho, André Villas-Boas, David Moyes… the list is endless,” a source told the Siya crew.

“It should be completed in the next few months and the next one will be the UEFA A. South African coaches are starting to realise the importance of equipping themselves more with the qualifications, because even the analysts are attending these top courses. It’s coming together for the new generation of coaches,” the source added.

At 38 years of age, Letsholonyane is still going strong at Galaxy, though his contract at the club is set to expire on June 30. There has been talk that he could extend his spell, though the Galaxy chairman, Tim Sukazi, hinted to Soccer Laduma earlier this month that they could look into keeping Yeye on board post-retirement. Will it be the start of his coaching career?

Contacted for comment, the player was not available to share his plans on his coaching qualifications.
